Content: On July 27, 2024, the International Youth Friendship Camp in Ningxia officially kicked off in Yinchuan, with the theme “Youthful Friendship Gathering in Ningxia.” This event aims to build a bridge of friendship connecting different countries and cultures through the exchange and cooperation of international youth. Thirty-four representatives from 12 countries including South Korea, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and 13 representatives from Ningxia participated in the event. They will explore Ningxia’s regional conditions, experience Chinese traditional culture, and gain insights into the region’s ecological protection and characteristic industrial development.

On the opening day, the youth from the Friendship Camp visited the Huining District in Shizuishan City, where they admired exquisite folk musical instruments and personally experienced the creation process of traditional folk instruments like the国家级非物质文化遗产 “Niyawu” (泥哇呜). Korean youth Jin Daoyan expressed great interest in the beautiful sounds produced by the “clay pot” instrument, planning to share this cultural experience with his family and friends in South Korea to deepen their understanding of Chinese folk instruments.

To immerse themselves more deeply in Chinese culture, 28 international youth were hosted by local families in Yinchuan and Shizuishan, living and dining with their “friendly families.” This approach allowed them to experience the warmth and hospitality of Chinese families and delve deeper into Chinese traditional culture. In the home of Gong Shuqing at Shizuishan No. 3 Middle School, Russian youth Dulan, with her “friendly family,” learned to make dumplings together. Despite cultural differences, food served as a bridge for communication, allowing them to bond over delicious meals and find common language and emotional resonance.

Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Bai Yuzhen, stated that since the founding of the International Youth Friendship Camp in 2002, it has successfully hosted 19 editions, with over 1,000 international youth participating. The camp has helped build a bridge for cultural exchange between youth in Ningxia and the rest of the world. This event not only enhances international youth’s understanding of Chinese culture but also promotes friendly relations between countries, contributing positively to international cooperation and cultural exchange under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Through this event, international youth can not only experience Ningxia’s natural beauty and cultural charm firsthand, but also gain a deeper understanding of China’s development and changes. This fosters friendship and cooperation among them, contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
