Title: Small Molecule Drugs Help Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patients Achieve Treatment Goals – Expert
Body:
SHANGHAI, May 19 (Xinhua) — The number of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in China is increasing, imposing a burden on patients, families, and society. The diagnostic and treatment process is like a marathon, with patients facing lifelong treatment once diagnosed.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a group of intestinal diseases characterized by chronic inflammatory changes, including Crohn’s Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). As people’s lifestyles become faster-paced and dietary structures change, the incidence of IBD is on the rise. It is estimated that there are over 10 million patients with inflammatory bowel disease in China, and this number is still growing.
“The treatment of inflammatory bowel disease is a long and complex process. Patients need regular medication, checks, and surgery, which greatly affects their quality of life,” said Professor Chen Qin, the head of the Digestive Department of Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
In recent years, the development of small molecule drugs has provided new possibilities for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Small molecule drugs have clear targets, simple mechanisms of action, and fewer side effects, effectively improving patients’ symptoms and enhancing their quality of life.
“The use of small molecule drugs has given inflammatory bowel disease patients more treatment options, and their treatment success rates have improved,” Professor Chen Qin said. In the future, with more small molecule drugs coming on the market, the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease will be more precise and effective, providing better relief of patients’ suffering.
Additionally, experts remind patients with inflammatory bowel disease that during treatment, they should actively cooperate with doctors, maintain good habits, avoid spicy and greasy foods, and maintain a positive mindset to face the disease and strive for early recovery.
