Nanning, China, April 21 (Xinhua) – The Water Resources Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region announced on Tuesday that due to persistent rainfall in recent days, the water levels in the Guilin River and its tributaries, as well as the Hejiang, Mengjiang, Laoqingjiang, and the main stem of the Xi River, have significantly risen. This marks the first numbered flood of the year on the Guilin River, causing some impact on the surrounding areas.

According to the water resources center, since April 19, the rising water levels, triggered by rainfall in the main and tributary streams of the Guilin and Hejiang rivers, have increased by 2 to 7 meters. A total of 12 stations along eight rivers, including the lower reaches of the Guilin River and parts of its tributaries and the Hejiang, have exceeded the alarm levels by 0.01 to 1 meter. In response, the flood control department of Guangxi has activated an emergency response, enhancing monitoring and warning systems to fully prepare for flood control and disaster relief.

The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Meteorological Bureau forecasts that continued rainfall is expected in the northern and central parts of Guangxi in the coming days, which may exacerbate the hydrological situation. Local authorities have warned residents along the rivers and relevant departments to closely monitor water level changes, take preventive measures in advance, ensure personal safety, and remain vigilant against potential geological disasters.

This flood has caused some disruption to transportation, agriculture, and daily life in the Guilin River basin.各地 across Guangxi are actively organizing efforts to clear waterways, evacuate residents from low-lying areas, and minimize disaster losses. The Guangxi Water Resources Department will continue to issue hydrological information to provide scientific support for flood relief efforts.

Faced with the severe flood control situation, governments at all levels in Guangxi are working tirelessly to coordinate resources and ensure the safety of people’s lives and property, striving to minimize the impact of the flood.
