News content:
XINHUA, March 23 (He Bingxun, Li Qiuyang, and Li Jingning) – On March 23, the Qinghai Electric Power Research Institute successfully completed the site survey and selection of seven automatic weather stations (wind measurement points) in the Haixi region of Qinghai Province, complementing the four observation stations for monitoring ice buildup that were previously established. This initiative creates a network for monitoring extreme weather conditions that covers the region’s high-wind areas and extends to 110 kV and higher power lines in the surrounding areas.

As an important energy base in China, the safe operation of extra-high voltage power lines in Qinghai is crucial for ensuring the country’s energy security. To effectively address the impact of extreme weather on power lines, the Qinghai Electric Power Research Institute actively promotes the integration of power and weather, through the construction of automated weather stations and observation stations for monitoring ice buildup. This enables real-time monitoring of meteorological data such as wind speed and direction and temperature, providing scientific data for power dispatch.

The addition of seven new automatic weather stations will further enhance the density and accuracy of meteorological monitoring in Qinghai, particularly in high-wind areas, allowing for more accurate predictions of wind speed changes and thereby ensuring the safe operation of power lines. Moreover, the data from these weather stations will be shared with surrounding power lines, helping to improve the grid’s overall disaster resistance.

The Qinghai Electric Power Research Institute stated that it will continue to strengthen the integration of power and weather in the future, explore more cooperation models and technological innovations, and ensure the long-term safe and stable operation of extra-high voltage power lines, thereby making a greater contribution to the optimization and upgrade of the energy structure.
