SHANGHAI, March 21 (Xinhua) — Luxurious resort hotels, free shuttles, seafood banquets, and “high-end medical check-ups” and “expert consultations” — all for free. In reality, these seemingly perfect services were part of a well-crafted scheme to defraud the elderly. Shanghai Pudong police recently dismantled a fraud ring targeting the elderly, with over a thousand victims falling prey to the scam, involving a significant amount of money.
The “free” retirement group tours lured a large number of elderly people with the promise of no cost, only to be sold low-priced health products. Unaware of the deception, they were taken to five-star hotels to enjoy a series of high-end services, ultimately being coaxed into buying expensive health products.
After receiving reports, Shanghai Pudong police swiftly launched an investigation and, after thorough detective work, successfully busted the fraud ring. The police have vowed to continue intensifying efforts to combat fraud targeting the elderly and protect the lawful rights and interests of the elderly.
