This marks a significant milestone in China’s efforts to enhance its AI computing capabilities. The project is expected to be operational by the first half of 2024, providing a substantial boost to the city’s AI industry. The cluster’s total computing power is projected to exceed 4500P, with each pool newly built to accommodate at least 10,000 domestic computing cards, setting it apart as the first single pool liquid-cooled computing cluster of its kind in China.

The collaboration between the Shanghai Xuhui District Government and China Telecom Shanghai Company underscores the joint commitment to advancing AI technology through the provision of public computing power services. The availability of such high-performance computing resources is expected to foster innovation in AI applications and drive the development of related industries in the region.

As the world’s attention increasingly turns to AI and big data, China Telecom’s move to deploy advanced liquid-cooling technology for its computing clusters in Shanghai underscores the city’s ambition to become a global hub for AI innovation and development. The new computing cluster is set to play a pivotal role in supporting trillions of parameters for large AI models, driving forward the next wave of AI advancements in China.
