As the traditional Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival, approaches, the Chinese and Cambodian collaborators working on projects in Cambodia remain steadfast in their posts, missing home but feeling a sense of warmth and joy in their sacrifice.
On February 12, a journalist from China News Service visited the China-Cambodia cooperative project – the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Highway construction site. Despite the hot weather, the workers were in high spirits. They said that although they couldn’t return home for the New Year, they felt a sense of accomplishment knowing they were contributing to the economic development of Cambodia.
During the Spring Festival period, the project department organized rich cultural activities for the workers, including riddles, Spring Festival couplets, and watching the Spring Festival Gala, allowing them to feel the strong festival atmosphere even in a foreign land. In addition, the project department prepared red envelopes and gifts for the workers, making them feel the warmth of home during the New Year’s Day.
Among these project builders, many are young engineers and craftsmen. They all expressed that although they couldn’t reunite with their families during the New Year, this experience is an important part of their career and an opportunity to contribute to the development of both their own country and Cambodia.
