According to China News Service, the UN Security Council held an emergency public meeting on February 5th to discuss the US airstrikes in Syria and Iraq. At the meeting, Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN, Zhang Jun, expressed serious concern about the military actions of the United States.

In his speech, Representative Zhang pointed out that China has always advocated respect for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all countries, emphasizing the political resolution of the Syria issue and the fight against terrorism. However, the US airstrikes could exacerbate regional tensions and even affect the peace process in Syria. Zhang emphasized that the Security Council should play a proactive and constructive role in promoting the political resolution of the Syria issue.
