Seoul, South Korea – In a recent interview, celebrated singer and actress IU (Lee Ji-eun) shared her thoughts on the profound message of her latest Netflix drama, When Life Gives You Tangerines. The series, in which IU portrays dual roles, explores the enduring value of life even after experiencing loss and separation.

This drama shows us that life after parting still holds value, offering a deep sense of comfort, IU stated during the interview held on April 2nd at a hotel in Seoul.

When Life Gives You Tangerines is a sweeping historical romance set in 1950s Jeju Island, South Korea. The story follows the lives of Oh Ae-sun, a rebellious young woman with literary aspirations (played by IU and Moon So-ri), and Yang Kwan-shik, a stoic and hardworking man who has been her childhood friend (played by Park Bo-gum and Park Hae-joon). The narrative delves into the challenges and heartaches they face throughout their lives, including the pain of unfulfilled dreams, the devastation of losing a child, the sorrow of a seven-year separation from first love, and the belated realization of gratitude and remorse towards one’s mother.

IU’s performance in the drama has been particularly praised for her ability to convey a wide range of emotions, especially through her expressive portrayal of grief and resilience. The series resonates with viewers by exploring universal themes of love, loss, family, and the enduring power of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

When Life Gives You Tangerines is currently streaming on Netflix.
