Shanghai, China – Zhiyuan Robotics, a leading Chinese robotics company, has announced a strategic technology partnership with Physical Intelligence (Pi), a globally recognized pioneer in embodied intelligence. The collaboration aims to accelerate advancements in embodied intelligence, particularly in the development of robots capable of performing complex, long-duration tasks in dynamic environments.

This partnership underscores Zhiyuan Robotics’ commitment to a holistic, full-stack approach to embodied intelligence, encompassing robot design, data acquisition, and AI model development. The company has already achieved a significant milestone, having manufactured over 1,000 general-purpose embodied robots.

A key driver of this collaboration is the recent appointment of Dr. Luo Jianlan, a renowned expert in embodied intelligence, to Zhiyuan Robotics. Dr. Luo will lead the newly established Zhiyuan Embodied Intelligence Research Center, spearheading the joint research efforts with Physical Intelligence.

Synergistic Strengths for Embodied Intelligence Advancement

The collaboration between Zhiyuan Robotics and Physical Intelligence is already yielding promising results. Their combined expertise enables the creation of a universal model capable of executing diverse tasks based on varying instructions. This model can be adapted to various end-effectors, including dexterous hands and grippers, and is compatible with a range of sensors, such as fisheye and pinhole cameras.

A compelling demonstration of their progress involves a robot performing the intricate task of wearing a scarf. The robot utilizes visual input from a mirror to determine the relative position of the scarf and the wearer’s head, initiating the scarf-wearing process. Subsequently, the robot precisely adjusts the scarf’s length on each side, using its left hand to grasp and reposition one end before passing it to the right hand for the final wrapping motion. This showcases the robot’s ability to maintain smooth movements, stable posture, and dexterous bimanual coordination, mimicking human-like motion.

Physical Intelligence, founded by leading scientists, engineers, and roboticists, including embodied intelligence pioneers Professor Sergey Levine and Professor Chelsea Finn, is at the forefront of applying general artificial intelligence (AGI) to the physical world. The company has developed advanced embodied models such as π0 and Hi Robot.

Zhiyuan Robotics aims to leverage the fusion of AI and robotics to create world-class general-purpose embodied robots and a thriving application ecosystem. The company’s robust robot body + AI technology stack, coupled with its comprehensive embodied intelligence framework, positions it as a leader in the field.

By joining forces, Zhiyuan Robotics and Physical Intelligence are poised to drive the development and application of cutting-edge technologies in the intelligent robotics sector.

Global Leadership in Embodied Intelligence

Dr. Luo Jianlan’s appointment as Chief Scientist and head of the Zhiyuan Embodied Intelligence Research Center further solidifies Zhiyuan Robotics’ commitment to innovation. Dr. Luo’s extensive expertise in embodied intelligence will be instrumental in guiding the collaboration with Physical Intelligence and advancing the field as a whole.

This strategic partnership between Zhiyuan Robotics and Physical Intelligence represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of embodied intelligence, promising to unlock new possibilities for robots to interact with and navigate the complexities of the real world.
