Tokyo – A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Japan’s Osumi Peninsula on Wednesday, April 2nd, at 11:04 PM local time (10:04 PM Beijing time), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The JMA has stated that the earthquake is not expected to generate a tsunami.
The Osumi Peninsula is located in Kagoshima Prefecture, on the southern island of Kyushu. While details regarding potential damage or injuries are still emerging, the lack of a tsunami warning provides some reassurance.
Japan, located in a highly seismically active zone, experiences frequent earthquakes. The country has invested heavily in earthquake-resistant infrastructure and public awareness programs to mitigate the impact of these natural events.
This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
