New York, NY – Lenovo’s upcoming Legion Go S handheld gaming PC, initially announced at CES 2025 with a competitive price point, has seen a price increase of $50 ahead of its anticipated launch. The device, which garnered attention for its adoption of Valve’s SteamOS, will now retail for $549.99, a shift from the originally stated $499.99.

The price adjustment was first noted by The Verge, as pre-orders went live on Best Buy’s platform. Lenovo’s Communications Director, Jeff Witt, has since confirmed the new pricing. The Legion Go S is slated for release on May 25th.

The Legion Go S aims to carve a niche in the increasingly crowded handheld gaming PC market. While the price increase might raise eyebrows, the device still boasts a compelling set of features. Unlike its predecessor, the Legion Go, the ‘S’ variant features non-detachable controllers and a lighter overall design, weighing in at 740 grams compared to the Legion Go’s 854 grams.

The device is equipped with an 8-inch LCD screen with a 1920×1200 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and 97% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. It also supports 10-point touch and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) technology.

Under the hood, the Legion Go S offers options for AMD’s newly released Ryzen Z2 Go processor or the Z1 Extreme processor. Memory configurations go up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and storage reaches a maximum of 1TB via a PCIe Gen 4 SSD, compatible with both 2242 and 2280 form factors.

Connectivity is well-covered with two USB4 ports supporting DP 1.4, PD 3.0, and 40Gbps transfer speeds. A microSD card slot, audio jack, dual 2W speakers, Bluetooth 5.3, and Wi-Fi 6E round out the specifications.

One of the key differentiators for the Legion Go S is its operating system. Lenovo has partnered with Valve to offer the device with SteamOS pre-installed, making it one of the first third-party handhelds to ship with the platform. A Windows version will also be available, sporting a white color scheme, while the SteamOS version will be offered in purple.

Conclusion:

The Lenovo Legion Go S presents a compelling option for gamers seeking a portable SteamOS experience. While the $50 price increase may disappoint some, the device’s features, including its high-refresh-rate display, powerful processor options, and lightweight design, position it as a strong contender in the handheld gaming PC market. The success of the Legion Go S will likely depend on its performance, battery life, and the overall user experience offered by the SteamOS integration. Future reviews and user feedback will be crucial in determining its ultimate place in the market.
