Shanghai, China – In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s passing, the Shanghai Sun Yat-sen Residence Museum has initiated the construction of a specialized digital database dedicated to its collection of rare books. The project, announced on March 27th, aims to provide greater access to these invaluable resources for researchers, historians, and the general public.

The initiative underscores the enduring significance of Sun Yat-sen’s legacy and the importance of preserving historical materials related to his life and work. The database will encompass a wide range of materials, including books, manuscripts, and other documents that shed light on Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary activities, political thought, and personal life.

This database represents a significant step forward in our efforts to promote the study of Sun Yat-sen’s life and legacy, said a representative from the Shanghai Sun Yat-sen Residence Museum. By making these materials more accessible, we hope to inspire a new generation of scholars and citizens to learn about his contributions to China and the world.

The project is expected to take several months to complete, with plans for the database to be launched online in the near future. Once completed, the database will be a valuable resource for anyone interested in learning more about Sun Yat-sen and his pivotal role in modern Chinese history.

Background:

Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925) was a Chinese physician, writer, philosopher, and revolutionary, the first president and founding father of the Republic of China. He played an instrumental role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty during the Xinhai Revolution. Sun is revered in both mainland China and Taiwan. His former residence in Shanghai, located on Rue Molière (now Xiangshan Road), serves as a museum dedicated to his life and work.
