Seoul, South Korea – Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, passed away on March 25th due to sudden cardiac arrest. He was 63 years old.
Han, born in 1962, joined Samsung Electronics in 1988 and rose through the ranks to become President of the Visual Display Business in 2017. He dedicated over three decades of his career to television research and development.
In late 2021, Han was promoted to Vice Chairman of the Device eXperience (DX) division, where he spearheaded technological innovation across Samsung’s television, home appliance, and smartphone sectors. His leadership was instrumental in maintaining Samsung’s position as the world’s leading television manufacturer for 19 consecutive years.
In March 2022, Han was appointed as a Representative Director (Chairman) of Samsung Electronics. He was recognized for his exceptional management and leadership skills, guiding the company through various challenges. Just days before his passing, on March 19th, he addressed the 56th annual shareholders’ meeting, pledging to enhance shareholder value. Following the meeting, he traveled to China to participate in the 2025 China Household Appliance and Consumer Electronics Expo (AWE).
Han’s contributions to the electronics industry, both domestically and internationally, have been significant. His leadership and vision will be deeply missed.
