Suwon, South Korea (March 25, 2025) – South Korea’s national football team failed to secure an early berth in the next round of the FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Jordan in their Group Stage Round 8 match held today at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.

The Taeguk Warriors, despite maintaining their unbeaten record in the qualifiers, were unable to capitalize on their home advantage.

The match started promisingly for the home side. In the 5th minute, Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min delivered a precise corner kick from the left, finding Lee Jae-sung who expertly headed the ball into the net, giving South Korea an early 1-0 lead. The stadium erupted in cheers as the home crowd anticipated a dominant performance.

However, Jordan quickly responded. In the 30th minute, Mohammad Mardi found the back of the net, leveling the score and silencing the Korean supporters.

Despite both teams’ efforts in the second half, neither could break the deadlock, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

While South Korea remains at the top of their group with 16 points from four wins and four draws, the draw means they haven’t yet secured their place in the next stage of the World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Looking ahead, South Korea will face Iraq in an away match on June 5th, followed by a final group stage match on June 11th. The team will need to secure positive results in these matches to guarantee their progression in the World Cup qualification campaign.
