Beijing, China – Xiaomi Auto is making waves in the smart vehicle arena with the unveiling of its innovative Front Car Recognition feature. This technology, detailed in the latest installment of Xiaomi Auto’s Q&A with Users series, leverages a self-developed multimodal large model to identify the brand and model of vehicles ahead with impressive accuracy.

The feature, accessible via the in-car voice assistant Xiao Ai, allows drivers to simply ask, What car is that ahead? to receive instant identification. This functionality is underpinned by three core technological advantages:

  • Precise Identification and Intelligent Coverage: Advanced algorithms precisely lock onto target vehicles, while multi-angle dynamic analysis adapts to varying weather conditions, lighting, and complex road scenarios, ensuring comprehensive coverage across highways and urban roads.

  • Data Acquisition and Training: The development team meticulously collected 50-100 images of each vehicle model from key angles (front, rear, and sides), capturing diverse scenarios including day and night, near and far, to optimize model recognition capabilities.

  • Technology Fusion and Optimization: The team employs multimodal data fusion and sensor fusion, pairing image and semantic labeling data, and using fine-tuning data to enhance the model’s understanding of orientation.

Currently, the Front Car Recognition feature boasts a 90% accuracy rate for identifying common vehicle models, with an even higher accuracy rate of over 99% for Xiaomi’s own vehicles. The feature is now fully available on all Xiaomi Auto vehicles currently on sale.

Beyond simple identification, the Front Car Recognition feature extends to answering questions about the identified vehicle. Users can ask Xiao Ai questions such as:

  • When was that car released? – Xiao Ai will automatically navigate to a timeline of new car releases.
  • Is that a gasoline or electric vehicle? – Xiao Ai will provide the answer.
  • How much does it cost? – Xiao Ai will display the reference price available online.

This interactive functionality adds a layer of practicality and entertainment to the human-machine interaction experience.

Xiaomi Auto’s commitment to innovation extends beyond the Front Car Recognition feature. The company also highlighted its Parking Power Retention feature, designed for pet owners who need to leave their animals temporarily in the vehicle. This feature maintains power supply to the vehicle, allowing the air conditioning to remain on and ensuring a comfortable environment for pets. Users can activate the feature through the control center on the central screen, setting a duration of 15 minutes to 6 hours. The system will automatically deactivate when the battery level reaches 20%.

Looking ahead, Xiaomi plans to continue refining the Front Car Recognition algorithm, leveraging big data and artificial intelligence to further enhance its capabilities. This commitment to continuous improvement promises to make the feature even more powerful and versatile in the future.

The Front Car Recognition feature represents a significant step forward in smart vehicle technology, offering a blend of practicality, entertainment, and enhanced user experience. As Xiaomi Auto continues to innovate, the future of driving promises to be even more intelligent and connected.
