Beijing – In a move poised to reshape the landscape of China’s burgeoning anime short-drama market, AI video generation platform Vidu, a product of Shengshu Technology, has announced it has secured the rights to adapt seven wildly popular online novels into concept short films using artificial intelligence. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the AI-driven adaptation of online literature into visual media.
The seven intellectual properties (IPs) slated for adaptation include mega-hits such as Asura Martial God and Nine Star Hegemon Body Art, boasting readership figures in the tens of millions. This ambitious project leverages AI technology to transform these literary works into captivating animated shorts, potentially unlocking a new era for online novel adaptations.
The potential of online literature to be adapted into film and television has long been recognized, with numerous successful adaptations validating the commercial viability of these IPs. Now, Vidu is pioneering a new approach: using AI to reimagine these literary phenomena.
We are thrilled to partner with leading domestic novel platforms to empower the anime short-drama market with AI, stated a spokesperson for Shengshu Technology. Securing the rights to adapt these seven blockbuster online novels into concept short films is a major step forward. We are also launching a hot IP short-drama adaptation program, marking a new era for the AI-driven adaptation of online literature.
The initial selection of IPs includes:
- Asura Martial God
- Nine Star Hegemon Body Art
- Ninth Special Zone
- Gate of Star Marks
- Chronicles of the Human Emperor
- My 26-Year-Old Female Tenant
- Prosperous Tang Dynasty: Smoke and Clouds
These seven phenomenal IPs, collectively boasting over 10 billion views, are now poised to enter the public eye as AI-generated animated shorts. Spanning genres from fantasy Xianxia to futuristic science fiction, and from martial arts dramas to urban romance, each story possesses a strong visual appeal and significant potential for cinematic adaptation.
Historically, adapting novel IPs has been hampered by high production costs and lengthy production cycles. Traditional animation production is a complex and labor-intensive process, often requiring years to perfect a high-quality animation. AI animation technology, however, offers a solution by automating the generation of scripts, storyboards, assets, and video footage. This can drastically reduce production cycles from months or even years to mere weeks or even days, significantly improving efficiency and shortening timelines. This allows these IPs to transcend the confines of the written page and reach a wider audience through dynamic visuals.
Vidu: Reconstructing Phenomenal IPs with AI
To further engage users in Shengshu Technology’s AI short-drama initiative, Vidu has launched the Millions of SIPs Linked: Vidu Popular Online Novel Anime Adaptation Competition. This competition employs a dual-track system of public voting and professional judging, offering cash prizes and co-creation support to incentivize users to create compelling one-minute trailers for selected popular online novels. Participants can leverage Vidu to create visually stunning adaptations of novels in a short amount of time, breaking down the barriers between the written word and the visual realm, and introducing online novel IPs to the world of anime culture in innovative ways.
Vidu’s video large model offers efficient, intelligent, and innovative animation generation capabilities, enabling creators to produce high-quality animation trailers at low cost and with high efficiency, seamlessly converting text into images. This will help make this online IP adaptation competition a true co-creation event for AI animation creators, novel readers, and IP developers. Winning creators will not only receive generous rewards but also the opportunity to participate in the development of these IPs.
This initiative signals a significant shift in the entertainment industry, with AI poised to play an increasingly crucial role in bringing beloved stories to life in new and exciting ways. The success of Vidu’s project could pave the way for a new wave of AI-powered content creation, transforming how stories are told and consumed.
