Beijing – The Great Wall Motor (GWM) Haval Menglong Hi4 SUV is receiving a significant update for the 2025 model year, as revealed in recent filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The refresh focuses on exterior design changes and the introduction of a new 1.5T engine.
The current Haval Menglong Hi4 starts at 153,800 yuan, positioning it as a competitive player in China’s burgeoning SUV market. The 2025 model aims to build on this success with a bolder and more modern aesthetic.
The most noticeable change is the adoption of square headlights, replacing the rounded units found on the current model. This gives the Menglong Hi4 a more rugged and assertive appearance, aligning with its off-road aspirations. The front grille retains its vertical waterfall design, but the HAVAL logo has been reduced in size.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, retaining traditional door handles. At the rear, the HAVAL badge has been replaced with GWM, reflecting Great Wall Motor’s corporate branding strategy.
Dimensionally, the 2025 Haval Menglong Hi4 measures 4680mm (or 4800mm with optional accessories) in length, 1950mm in width, and 1822mm (or 1843mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 2738mm.
Under the hood, the 2025 Menglong Hi4 is expected to feature GWM’s second-generation Hi4 technology, centered around a new GW4B15M 1.5T engine. Interestingly, this engine produces a slightly lower maximum power output of 115 kW compared to the 123 kW of the current GW4B15E 1.5T engine. The reasons for this power reduction are not immediately clear but could be related to efficiency improvements or emissions regulations.
Battery options include 18.74 kWh (or 19.09 kWh) and 27.54 kWh (or 27.9 kWh) lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, offering a WLTC pure electric range of 81 km and 115 km, respectively – figures consistent with the current model. A new 35.43 kWh ternary lithium battery option has also been added, providing a longer WLTC pure electric range of 151 km. Fuel consumption in the depleted state is rated at 6.09 liters per 100 km.
Analysis:
The 2025 Haval Menglong Hi4 represents a strategic refresh for Great Wall Motor. The exterior design changes, particularly the square headlights, aim to enhance the vehicle’s appeal and differentiate it from the outgoing model. The introduction of a new 1.5T engine, despite its slightly lower power output, suggests a focus on improved efficiency or emissions compliance.
The expanded battery options cater to a wider range of consumer needs, with the new 35.43 kWh ternary lithium battery offering a significantly extended pure electric range. This positions the Menglong Hi4 as a more compelling option for environmentally conscious buyers.
Looking Ahead:
The official launch of the 2025 Haval Menglong Hi4 is expected in the coming months. Further details regarding pricing, performance specifications, and available features will be released closer to the launch date. It will be crucial to see how these changes impact the vehicle’s competitiveness in the increasingly crowded Chinese SUV market.
