Tokyo, March 21 (Yonhap) — South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, currently in Japan to attend the 11th Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting among South Korea, China, and Japan, paid a courtesy call on Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo on March 21st.

Cho’s visit included a joint audience with Prime Minister Ishiba alongside Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi and Chinese Communist Party Politburo Member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. According to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Ishiba welcomed the foreign ministers from South Korea and China, expressing his hope for building a future-oriented cooperative relationship with both countries. He also voiced his anticipation for a meaningful discussion at the trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for March 22nd. Minister Cho responded by stating his commitment to continue efforts to maintain the momentum of trilateral cooperation.

In a separate meeting between Cho and Ishiba, the Japanese Prime Minister emphasized the unwavering importance of Japan-South Korea relations, as well as the trilateral relationship between Japan, South Korea, and the United States, within the current strategic environment. Ishiba stressed the need for Japan and South Korea to continue working towards the development of bilateral relations based on mutual trust and respect.
