Hong Kong, March 17, 2025 – Lee Shau-kee, the visionary founder of Henderson Land Development, one of Hong Kong’s leading property conglomerates, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on the evening of March 17th, surrounded by his family. The announcement was made by Henderson Land Development Company Limited, marking the end of an era for one of the most influential figures in Hong Kong’s business landscape.

Lee Shau-kee, often referred to as Uncle Four in Hong Kong, was a towering figure in the city’s economic development. His entrepreneurial journey began in the post-war era, and he played a pivotal role in shaping Hong Kong’s skyline and property market. Henderson Land, under his leadership, became synonymous with quality residential and commercial developments, contributing significantly to the city’s growth and prosperity.

Born in 1928 in Shunde, Guangdong province, Lee Shau-kee demonstrated business acumen from a young age. He started his career trading gold and foreign exchange before venturing into the real estate sector in the late 1950s. In 1973, he co-founded Henderson Land Development, which quickly rose to prominence, becoming a major player in Hong Kong’s booming property market.

Lee Shau-kee’s business philosophy was rooted in prudence and long-term vision. He was known for his astute investment strategies and his commitment to building high-quality properties that met the needs of Hong Kong’s growing population. His contributions extended beyond the business world, as he was also a generous philanthropist, supporting education, healthcare, and other charitable causes through the Lee Shau Kee Foundation.

The date for Lee Shau-kee’s funeral service will be announced later by his family. His passing marks a significant moment for Hong Kong, as the city mourns the loss of a business titan who left an indelible mark on its economic and social fabric. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of entrepreneurs and philanthropists in Hong Kong and beyond.
