Wuhan, China – Dongfeng eπ, the electric vehicle (EV) sub-brand of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, has announced that a track-focused, customized version of its eπ007 sedan will enter mass production later this year. This announcement signals Dongfeng’s commitment to performance EVs and its ambition to capture a segment of the market that craves both electric efficiency and dynamic driving capabilities.
Currently, the standard eπ007 models are priced between RMB 131,600 and RMB 199,600 (approximately $18,200 – $27,600 USD), offering both extended-range (EREV) and pure electric powertrain options. While Dongfeng eπ has yet to release detailed specifications for the track-oriented variant, previous concept versions offer a glimpse into what enthusiasts can expect.
The first customized eπ007 concept, unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, featured several performance-enhancing upgrades. These included a large rear spoiler for increased downforce, low-drag wheels to improve aerodynamic efficiency, and eye-catching purple brake calipers. The concept also showcased an intelligent light language module for the headlights, hinting at advanced lighting technology.

Beyond the concept cars, Dongfeng eπ has also developed an ETCR (Electric Touring Car Race) version of the eπ007. This race-ready machine, showcased at the FIA Formula E Championship event on May 25-26, 2024, provides a further indication of the performance potential of the eπ007 platform. The ETCR car boasts a large rear spoiler and utilizes a dual-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration. Each motor is capable of producing a peak power output of 350 kW (469 horsepower). Paired with a 79 kWh racing-specific battery pack, the ETCR eπ007 is designed to meet the demands of intense, short-burst racing events.
The upcoming production of the eπ007 track-focused variant represents a significant step for Dongfeng eπ. By offering a performance-oriented EV, the company aims to attract a new segment of customers who value both sustainability and driving excitement. The success of this model will depend on the final specifications and performance figures, which are eagerly awaited by automotive enthusiasts.
Conclusion:
Dongfeng eπ’s decision to produce a track-focused eπ007 sedan highlights the growing demand for performance EVs in the Chinese market and globally. The company’s investment in both concept cars and a dedicated ETCR race car demonstrates its commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle performance. As the automotive industry continues to transition towards electrification, models like the eπ007 track edition will play a crucial role in shaping the future of driving. Future research and development in battery technology and electric motor performance will be crucial to further enhance the capabilities of these high-performance EVs.
