Stuttgart, Germany – Porsche has officially confirmed that its highly anticipated all-electric Cayenne will make its debut later this year. The announcement, made by Porsche CEO Oliver Blume during a recent Q&A session, signals a significant step in the automaker’s electrification strategy. While the electric Cayenne is poised to redefine the luxury SUV segment, Porsche also revealed that the gasoline-powered Cayenne will continue production well into the 2030s, offering consumers a choice between traditional combustion engines and cutting-edge electric technology.
According to a report by motor1, the electric Cayenne is expected to be unveiled at an event on the West Coast sometime before the end of 2025. This fourth-generation Cayenne will be exclusively electric, marking a departure from Porsche’s strategy with the smaller Macan SUV, where the gasoline version will eventually be phased out.
Unlike the Macan, Porsche plans to keep the gasoline-powered Cayenne in production alongside its electric counterpart for many years to come. This decision reflects the company’s commitment to catering to a diverse customer base with varying preferences and needs. The gasoline Cayenne is expected to continue featuring a V8 engine, with the possibility of a more affordable gasoline version being introduced.
This news comes amidst reports that Porsche is considering launching a new gasoline-powered SUV, potentially as a replacement for the first-generation Macan. This move suggests that Porsche recognizes the continued demand for gasoline-powered vehicles, even as it aggressively pursues electrification.
While the electric Cayenne takes precedence, Porsche’s plans for the 718 series have been adjusted. Initially, the company intended to launch electric versions of the Boxster and Cayman before the electric Cayenne. However, the electric Cayenne has now been prioritized, meaning the electric 718 models will be delayed. Porsche spokesperson Stefan Meier-Uhlmann clarified that the launch plan for the all-electric 718 remains unchanged, with a target launch date in the mid-2020s. The change only involves the order in which the models are released.
Last July, Porsche showcased the first prototype images of the all-electric Cayenne. CEO Oliver Blume confidently stated that the Cayenne has always been a benchmark in its segment, and the fourth-generation Cayenne will set a new standard for electric SUVs in the mid-2020s.
The decision to offer both electric and gasoline versions of the Cayenne reflects Porsche’s pragmatic approach to electrification. By catering to both early adopters of electric vehicles and those who prefer traditional combustion engines, Porsche aims to maintain its market share and appeal to a wider range of customers. The continued production of the gasoline Cayenne into the 2030s underscores Porsche’s belief that gasoline-powered vehicles will remain relevant for the foreseeable future.
