Seoul, South Korea – In a dramatic turn of events, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was released from Seoul Detention Center on March 8th, after being detained for 52 days. The release order was issued by the South Korean prosecution and promptly delivered to the detention center, paving the way for Yoon’s return to the presidential residence.
Yoon Suk-yeol’s release comes 27 hours after a court approved the revocation of his arrest warrant. He had been detained since January 15th, following his arrest by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on suspicion of instigating insurrection.
The Special Investigation Headquarters (SIH) of the prosecution, responsible for the emergency martial law case, announced the release order in a press release at approximately 5:19 PM local time. Yoon Suk-yeol was seen leaving the detention center around 5:49 PM, escorted by security vehicles back to his official residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
