Seoul, South Korea – February 26, 2025 – Shin Jin-seo, a ninth-dan professional Go player from South Korea, secured a victory in the first game of the best-of-three final of the inaugural Nanyang Cup World Masters Go Tournament. The match, held in Singapore on February 26th, saw Shin, playing white, defeat China’s Wang Xinghao, also a ninth-dan professional, by resignation after 188 moves.

According to reports from the Korean Go Association, Shin Jin-seo initially faced a disadvantage in the opening and middle game. However, he skillfully managed to turn the tide and ultimately secure the win. This victory puts Shin one step closer to claiming the title of the first-ever Nanyang Cup champion, which would mark his eighth world championship title.

The second game of the final is scheduled to take place on February 28th at the same venue in Singapore. The stakes are high, with the champion set to receive a prize of 500,000 Singapore dollars, while the runner-up will be awarded 100,000 Singapore dollars.
