Guangzhou, China – GAC Trumpchi, a subsidiary of GAC Group, announced today that its upcoming M8 Kunlun Series MPV will be equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system and HarmonyOS cockpit. The announcement signals a deeper collaboration between the automaker and the tech giant, further intensifying the competition in China’s rapidly evolving intelligent vehicle market.

According to GAC Trumpchi Automobile Sales Co., Ltd., the M8 Kunlun Series will be the first model to integrate Huawei’s advanced technologies, with the company hinting at the imminent arrival of Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities.

This deep collaboration with Huawei has resulted in the M8 Kunlun Series MPV, which we believe will be the luxury MPV with the highest ‘Huawei content’, stated Tong Wei, General Manager of the M8 product line at GAC Group’s Product Headquarters. We have upgraded the vehicle in terms of internal and external design, intelligence, luxury, comfort, and safety.

The M8 Kunlun Series will feature the latest HarmonyOS cockpit and Qiankun intelligent driving system. Notably, it will support VPD (Valet Parking Driver) unmanned valet parking, already implemented at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and Shenzhen Baoan Airport in the Greater Bay Area. The company also plans to integrate Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities in the future.

This announcement follows a deepened cooperation agreement signed between GAC Group and Huawei on November 30th of last year. The agreement outlined GAC Group’s intention to create a new high-end intelligent new energy vehicle brand, separate from its existing Trumpchi, Aion, and Hyper brands.

GAC Group General Manager Feng Xingya revealed in January that the joint venture between Huawei’s car BU and GAC has already commenced collaborative operations, with the goal of launching a series of intelligent new car models. The first product from this partnership will be positioned as a luxury intelligent new energy vehicle in the 300,000 RMB price range.

Analysis:

This partnership between GAC Trumpchi and Huawei represents a significant step in the development of intelligent vehicles in China. By integrating Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system and HarmonyOS cockpit, GAC Trumpchi aims to elevate the M8 Kunlun Series MPV to a new level of intelligence and user experience.

The inclusion of VPD unmanned valet parking and the promise of Level 3 autonomous driving further underscore the commitment to advanced technology. This move is likely to attract consumers seeking cutting-edge features and a more convenient driving experience.

The collaboration also reflects Huawei’s growing influence in the automotive industry. Despite not manufacturing cars directly, Huawei is becoming a key supplier of intelligent vehicle solutions, partnering with numerous automakers to integrate its technologies.

Looking Ahead:

The launch of the GAC Trumpchi M8 Kunlun Series MPV will be a closely watched event, as it will provide a glimpse into the potential of the GAC-Huawei partnership. The success of this model could pave the way for further collaborations and accelerate the development of intelligent vehicles in China.
