Seoul, South Korea – South Korean actress Lee Hanee, known for her roles in films like Extreme Job and dramas such as One the Woman, recently underwent a tax audit by the Seoul Regional National Tax Service, resulting in additional tax payments. Her agency, TEAMHOPE, confirmed the news on February 17th, clarifying that the back taxes stemmed from differing interpretations between the tax authorities and her tax representative, not from any deliberate attempt to evade taxes.
According to TEAMHOPE, the amount Lee Hanee paid in back taxes totaled ₩6 billion Korean won, equivalent to approximately 30 million Chinese Yuan.
Lee Hanee fully cooperated with the tax authorities, following legal procedures and diligently fulfilling her tax obligations based on the advice of her tax representative, the agency stated in a press release. The additional tax payment was a result of a difference in opinion between the tax authorities and our tax representative.
The agency emphasized that Lee Hanee has always been committed to honest tax reporting and that the matter has been resolved with the full payment of the assessed taxes.
The news has generated considerable interest online, with many fans expressing support for the actress and appreciation for her agency’s swift clarification. The incident highlights the complexities of tax law and the potential for discrepancies in interpretation, even when taxpayers act in good faith.
While the specific details of the tax audit remain undisclosed, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of meticulous tax planning and compliance for public figures and businesses alike.
