Shenzhen, China – A high-level Cambodian delegation, comprised of provincial governors and key officials, is currently in Shenzhen, China, on a four-day fact-finding mission focused on replicating Shenzhen’s remarkable coastal economic development. Organized by the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance, the delegation, which arrived on February 16th, includes the governors of the coastal provinces of Sihanoukville, Koh Kong, Kampot, and Kep, along with other relevant departmental officials.

The primary objective of the visit is to glean insights and best practices from Shenzhen’s experience in transforming from a small fishing village into a global economic powerhouse. Cambodia hopes to leverage this knowledge to accelerate the economic development of its own coastal regions.

Shenzhen, a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) established in 1980, has become a symbol of China’s economic reforms and opening-up policy. Its rapid growth, driven by foreign investment, technological innovation, and a market-oriented approach, offers a compelling model for developing nations seeking to boost their economies.

The Cambodian delegation’s visit underscores the growing economic ties between Cambodia and China, particularly within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Cambodia’s coastal provinces hold significant potential for economic growth, with opportunities in tourism, manufacturing, and logistics. However, realizing this potential requires strategic planning, infrastructure development, and effective governance.

During their stay in Shenzhen, the delegation is expected to visit key economic zones, meet with government officials and business leaders, and participate in workshops and seminars. The focus will be on understanding the policies, strategies, and infrastructure investments that have contributed to Shenzhen’s success.

The Cambodian government hopes that the knowledge gained from this visit will inform the development of targeted policies and initiatives to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth in its coastal regions, ultimately improving the livelihoods of its citizens. The success of this mission could pave the way for further collaboration between Cambodia and China in the area of economic development.
