Beijing – In a decisive move to safeguard intellectual property rights within the burgeoning film industry, China’s National Film Administration (NFA) announced a major crackdown on film piracy, seizing over 430,000 instances of copyright infringement related to films released during the recent Spring Festival holiday.
The announcement, made on February 16, 2025, underscores the government’s commitment to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of filmmakers and distributors, and fostering a healthy and sustainable environment for the industry.
The Spring Festival, a peak season for moviegoing in China, often sees a surge in both box office revenue and, unfortunately, illegal distribution of films. Recognizing this challenge, the NFA, in collaboration with the National Copyright Administration, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, launched a targeted campaign to combat film piracy.
