Beijing – Xiaomi Auto is riding high after its SU7 Ultra electric vehicle set a blistering lap record at the Shanghai International Circuit (SIC). But the company isn’t resting on its laurels, confirming that preparations are underway for a Nürburgring Nordschleife attempt.
The news comes from Xiaomi Auto’s latest Q&A session with fans, addressing questions about the SIC record, Porsche’s congratulatory message, and future track ambitions.
Record-Breaking Run at Shanghai
The SU7 Ultra’s record-breaking lap was piloted by Ren Zhoucan, Xiaomi Auto’s head of vehicle dynamic performance development and chief test driver. Known internally as Can Ge (Brother Can), Ren is not only an engineer but also a seasoned racing champion. He was also the individual who confidently stated We only need 7 minutes in the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Nürburgring Documentary.
Xiaomi emphasized that the record-setting SU7 Ultra was in completely stock condition, with the only modification being the addition of a full roll cage for safety, weighing 80 kg. The vehicle’s configuration was officially certified by the Shanghai International Circuit.
The record was achieved on February 13th under clear skies and a chilly 4 degrees Celsius. Xiaomi noted that the low temperature presented a challenge, as tire, brake, and powertrain performance are typically better in warmer conditions around 20 degrees Celsius.
During practice runs on February 10th, the SU7 Ultra already clocked an impressive 2:10.620. On the official record attempt day, Ren Zhoucan further refined his driving, ultimately setting a lap time of 2:09.944, officially becoming the fastest production car at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Porsche’s Kudos and Future Plans
Xiaomi expressed its sincere gratitude to Porsche for publicly congratulating them on the SIC achievement, praising the German automaker’s pattern and mind.
Looking ahead, Xiaomi confirmed that the Nürburgring Nordschleife attempt is still on the cards and is being planned. The company aims to further push the limits of the SU7 Ultra and showcase its performance capabilities on the world’s most challenging racetrack.
The Road Ahead
Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive market has been met with considerable enthusiasm, and the SU7 series has garnered positive reviews. The company’s commitment to performance, as demonstrated by the SIC record and the planned Nürburgring attempt, signals its intention to compete with established players in the electric vehicle space. With a team of passionate engineers and experienced racing drivers, Xiaomi Auto is poised to make a significant impact on the automotive landscape.
