Hangzhou, Zhejiang – The Spring Festival holiday is barely over, but Zhejiang’s film and television industry is already buzzing with activity. At Linying Studio, a film production base in Hangzhou’s Linping District, the studio head Zhang Congcong is busy receiving waves of production crews scouting locations. The demand is particularly high for short-form dramas, reflecting a growing trend in China’s entertainment landscape.

A Variety of Sets, A Rush of Activity

Hospitals, schools, subway stations, offices – Linying Studio offers a diverse range of sets, catering to the needs of various productions. On February 7th, Zhang Congcong was personally guiding teams through the facility, showcasing the studio’s capabilities and facilitating the pre-production process.

Short-Form Dramas: The Driving Force

The surge in activity is largely attributed to the popularity of short-form dramas. These bite-sized narratives, often consumed on mobile devices, have captured a significant audience in China. The format’s accessibility and fast-paced storytelling make it particularly appealing to younger viewers.

Zhejiang: A Hub for Film and Television

Zhejiang province has emerged as a prominent hub for China’s film and television industry. Its vibrant economy, diverse landscapes, and supportive government policies have attracted numerous production companies and talent. The province’s commitment to fostering a thriving creative ecosystem has fueled its growth as a key player in the entertainment sector.

Looking Ahead

The early resumption of filming activities in Zhejiang signals a strong start to the year for the province’s film and television industry. The demand for short-form dramas is expected to continue, driving further growth and innovation in the sector. As Chinese audiences increasingly embrace digital entertainment, Zhejiang is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend and solidify its position as a leading force in the industry.
