Harbin, China – The 9th Asian Winter Games officially commenced on February 7th at the Harbin International Conference and Exhibition Center, marking the start of an eight-day sporting spectacle. Athletes from 34 nations and regions across Asia will compete fiercely from February 7th to 14th, vying for medals and glory on the snowy stage.
The opening ceremony, held at 8 PM local time, was a vibrant display of Chinese culture and winter sportsmanship. A delegation of 222 athletes and officials represents South Korea at the Games.
South Korea, entering the ceremony as the 13th delegation, is aiming high, setting its sights on securing second place in the overall medal standings. Ice hockey player Lee Chong-min and curler Kim Eun-ji proudly carried the South Korean flag during the opening ceremony. The North Korean delegation entered earlier as the 5th team.
The South Korean team has specific targets in mind, hoping to dominate in short track speed skating with a goal of six gold medals. They are also aiming for two gold medals in speed skating, as well as medals in alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, and ice hockey.
The Asian Winter Games, held every four years, is a crucial platform for winter sports development in Asia.
