Seoul, South Korea – Anticipating a surge in South Korean visitors to Harbin for the upcoming 2025 Asian Winter Games, the South Korean government announced on February 5th that it will dispatch a response team to the Chinese city. The team will be stationed in Harbin from February 6th to 15th, with the primary objective of providing immediate assistance to South Korean citizens in the event of incidents or accidents during the Games.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the response team will comprise personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Fire Agency. This deployment reflects the South Korean government’s proactive approach to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad, particularly in light of China’s recent implementation of a visa-free entry policy for South Koreans. This policy, coupled with events like the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival and the Asian Winter Games, is expected to significantly increase the number of South Korean tourists visiting Harbin.
The response team will focus on promoting travel safety awareness among South Korean citizens, particularly in popular tourist destinations and near the Asian Winter Games venues. This initiative underscores the importance South Korea places on the safety of its citizens traveling abroad and its commitment to providing timely assistance when needed.
This move comes as South Korea prepares to send a large contingent of athletes and support staff to the Asian Winter Games. The proactive deployment of a response team demonstrates a comprehensive approach to ensuring a safe and successful experience for all South Korean participants and visitors.
