Nokia Acquires Global API Hub to Boost 5G and 4G NetworkRevenue

Helsinki, Finland – Nokia, the Finnish telecommunications giant, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired the world’s largest application programming interface (API) hub and marketplace from Rapid, a US-based company. This acquisition ispart of Nokia’s strategy to boost revenue from its 5G and 4G network businesses.

Like other telecommunications equipment manufacturers, Nokia has beenseeking ways to monetize or diversify its 5G equipment market. The company is aiming to attract investments related to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).

The acquisition will see Nokia take ownership of Rapid’s technology and research and developmentdivision. This will enable Nokia’s clients to integrate their own networks, control their API usage, and collaborate with platform developers.

APIs, or application programming interfaces, are essentially strings of code that enable standardized communication, data exchange, and functionality between software components. Their use in advanced 5G networks provides faster, more secure, and more accurate access to data such as user location or connection status.

While Nokia did not disclose the financial details of the transaction, the acquisition is expected to significantly enhance its 5G and 4G network offerings.By leveraging Rapid’s API expertise, Nokia aims to create a more robust and interconnected ecosystem for its clients, allowing them to capitalize on the growing demand for data-driven services and applications.

This strategic move underscores Nokia’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the evolving telecommunications landscape. By embracing the potential ofAPIs and AI, Nokia is positioning itself to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of connectivity and digital transformation.
