Capybara Family Soaks Up the Winter Sun in Shizuoka
Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture – A heartwarming scene is unfolding atthe Izu Cactus Animal Park in Ito, Shizuoka Prefecture, where families of capybaras, the world’s largest rodents, are enjoying aleisurely soak in a specially designed outdoor bath.
The park, which has been home to capybaras for over 50 years, sets upthe bath each autumn and winter to provide the animals with a comfortable respite from the chilly weather. As the warm water fills the bath, the capybaras, young and old, eagerly gather, their eyes half-closed in blissful contentment.
It’s so cute to see the capybaras taking a bath, said a 5-year-old girl from Kanagawa Prefecture. They look so happy.
The sight of these gentle giants relaxing in thewarm water has become a popular attraction for visitors, who are charmed by the capybaras’ laid-back demeanor and the heartwarming family scenes. The park expects the capybara bath to remain open until April 2025.
