Microsoft Bundles AI-Powered Office Features into Microsoft 365 Subscriptions

Redmond, Washington – Microsoft is quietly integrating its AI-powered Office features into Microsoft365 subscriptions, no longer charging users an additional $20 per month for access to these capabilities.

The software giant announced last week thatit was incorporating Copilot Pro features into its Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscription plans, initially rolling out the change in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia,Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.

It’s been nine months since we introduced Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps to consumers through Copilot Pro, Microsoft stated in a press release found on ZDNet. In that time, we’ve added newfeatures, improved performance, and listened carefully to customer feedback. Based on that feedback, we’re making Copilot part of Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions.

Alongside this change, Microsoft is also adding its Microsoft Designer application to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions in these specific markets. Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers will receive a monthly AI credit allowance to use Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Designer, Microsoft explained. The credit points will also apply to applications like Paint, Photos, and Notepad on Windows.

For Microsoft 365 Family subscribers in these specific markets, only the account owner will have access to Copilot, and it cannot be shared with other family members.

While some Microsoft 365 Personal and Family users may see their monthly subscription fees increase, the price hike is in exchange for Microsoft’s introduction of Copilot Pro.

To reflect the value we’re delivering with Copilot Pro, we’re adjusting the price of Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions in these markets, Microsoft said in its press release. We believe this change will provide our customers with even more value and help them achieve more with the power of AI.

This move by Microsoft signifies astrategic shift towards integrating AI capabilities directly into its core product offerings, potentially making AI-powered features more accessible to a wider user base. It remains to be seen how this change will impact user adoption and the overall landscape of AI-powered productivity tools.
