Microsoft is set to invest a staggering $10billion (approximately 712.77 billion yuan) in AI servers from the startup CoreWeave between 2023 and 2030, according to a recent report from The Information. This deal, which represents over half of CoreWeave’s total $17 billion in contracts, signifiesa larger investment than previously known.

CoreWeave, backed by Nvidia, is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) in 2025. The startup recently secured a $650 million credit line from severalinvestment banks. Prior to this, CoreWeave raised $12.7 billion through equity and debt financing over the past year, including a $750 million debt financing round in May. In August, the company raised an additional $2.3 billion using Nvidia AI chips as collateral.

Public information reveals that CoreWeave, headquartered in Roseland, New Jersey, was founded in 2017. The company leases access to Nvidia’s AI chips from one of its 14 data centers and plans to have 28 datacenters by the end of this year.

The Significance of the Deal

This massive investment from Microsoft highlights the growing demand for AI computing power. As companies like Microsoft race to develop and deploy advanced AI models, they require access to powerful and scalable infrastructure. CoreWeave’s specialized AI infrastructure, powered by Nvidia’s chips, offers a compelling solution for these needs.

CoreWeave’s Growth Trajectory

CoreWeave’s rapid growth is evident in its recent fundraising efforts and expansion plans. The company’s ability to secure significant funding and build out its data center infrastructure demonstrates its strong position in the rapidly evolving AImarket.

Implications for the AI Industry

This deal signifies a significant shift in the AI landscape. As major tech players like Microsoft invest heavily in AI infrastructure, it further fuels the development and adoption of AI technologies across various industries. This trend is likely to accelerate innovation and drive the growth of the AI market in the coming years.
