South Korea’s Chungcheongnam-do and China’s Hebei ProvincePartner on Carbon Neutrality
Hongseong, South Korea, November 3, 2024 – Chungcheongnam-do Governor Kim Tae-keun, currently visiting China, met with Hebei Governor Wang Zhengpuin Shijiazhuang on November 2nd. The two sides agreed to collaborate on solutions to global challenges, particularly carbon neutrality.
Governor Kim emphasized the importance ofjoint efforts in addressing climate change and security concerns in Northeast Asia. He highlighted Hebei’s leading role in implementing China’s carbon neutrality roadmap, having been the first provincial unit to announce its carbon neutrality policy in 2022. Chungcheongnam-do followed suit by declaring itself a Carbon Neutral Economy Special Province in the same year.
The two provinces also discussed establishing a local diplomatic platform, the Chungcheongnam-do-Hebei ComprehensiveCommittee. Governor Kim proposed holding full meetings biennially and working meetings as needed, to enhance cooperation on various projects.
This partnership signifies a growing trend of regional collaboration in tackling global challenges. By pooling resources and expertise, Chungcheongnam-do and Hebei Province aim to accelerate progress towards carbon neutrality and foster a more sustainablefuture for both regions and the world.
