Xiaomi Considers Turning Internal SU7 Training into a Driving School

Beijing,November 1, 2024 – Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, in a recentlivestream, revealed that the company is considering turning its internal training program for the upcoming Xiaomi SU7 SUV into a public driving school. This announcement comes on the heels ofXiaomi’s recent advancements in autonomous driving technology, highlighted by the company’s end-to-end and parking lot to parking lot capabilities, set to be rolled out to select users later this month.

During the livestream, which was held after the launch of the Xiaomi 15 series, Lei Jun emphasized the importance of safety when driving on racetracks, particularly forthose with limited experience. He stated, It’s best to have professional guidance when driving on a racetrack, and it’s essential to undergo proper training. We’re currently discussing whether we can turn our internal training programfor the Xiaomi SU7 into a driving school, allowing our users to experience this.

This move underscores Xiaomi’s commitment to promoting responsible use of its advanced autonomous driving technology. The company has already made significant strides in this area, with its City Navigation Assist (CNOA) feature now available nationwide. Xiaomi’s end-to-end and parking lot to parking lot capabilities, which are currently undergoing internal testing, are expected to be released to the public in a phased approach, starting with a limited beta program later this month.

While Xiaomi’s autonomous driving technology is steadily advancing, Lei Jun reiterated the importance ofdriver vigilance and the need for human intervention, particularly in challenging driving environments. He emphasized that current autonomous driving systems are designed to assist drivers, not replace them.

Xiaomi’s potential foray into the driving school market represents a unique approach to promoting driver education and safety.
