China’s First Smart Factory for Marine Oil and Gas Equipment Goes Fully Operational
China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced today that itsTianjin Smart Manufacturing Base, the country’s first smart factory dedicated to marine oil and gas equipment, has officially commenced full operation. The announcement came withthe commencement of steel pile production for the second phase of the Bozhong 19-6 gas field development project.
The Tianjin base, spanning approximately 575,000 square meters, is a comprehensive facility designed to produce high-end oil and gas equipment, including marine oil and gas platforms and liquefied natural gas modules. It integrates intelligent manufacturing, smart maintenance for oil and gas fields, and research and development of marine engineering technology.
The base boasts four intelligent production workshops, eight auxiliary production centers, and 16 assembly positions, with a designed annual production capacity of 88,000 tons.It also features a high-quality wharf capable of accommodating vessels and floating bodies up to 300,000 tons.
The base was built in two phases. The first phase, launched in June 2022, saw the development of 10 industry-first technologies. The second phase, initiated in July 2023, involved the construction of a pipe production workshop, assembly areas, shipping channels, and key wharf facilities.
The base has implemented a comprehensive intelligent manufacturing management platform, integrating production control, workshop manufacturing, and factory management. It has also deployed over 600 sets ofadvanced intelligent production equipment, achieving full-process automation.
A key highlight is China’s first fully automated production line for marine platform steel structure pipes. This line automates processes such as material loading, cutting, rolling, pairing, grinding, and welding, achieving intelligent prefabrication within the workshop.
Since the first phase of the base went operational, it has completed the construction of 35 marine platforms, shipping over 87,000 tons of equipment. The base has achieved a 20% increase in overall production efficiency and a 30% improvement in assembly area efficiency.
Thelaunch of this smart factory signifies a significant step forward in China’s efforts to develop advanced marine oil and gas equipment manufacturing capabilities. It will contribute to the country’s ambition of becoming a global leader in offshore energy exploration and production.
