Putin: Russia Will Maintain Nuclear Forces at Necessary Level
Moscow, October29, 2024 – Russian President Vladimir Putin stated today that Russiahas no intention of engaging in an arms race but will maintain its nuclear forces at a necessary level. This declaration came during a video conference where Putin observed strategic deterrenceforce exercises.

During the exercises, a Yars intercontinental ballistic missilewas launched from the Plesetsk launch site in northwestern Russia towards the Kura test range on the Kamchatka Peninsula. Submarines operating in the Barents Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk fired Sineva and Bulava ballistic missiles respectively. Additionally, Tu-95MS long-range strategicbombers participated in the drills, launching cruise missiles.
Shoigu concluded that all assigned tasks during the strategic deterrence force exercises were successfully completed, with all missiles hitting their designated targets.
