Shibuya on High Alert for Halloween Crowds
Tokyo, Japan -As Halloween approaches, the Shibuya Ward government is taking extra precautions to prevent overcrowdingand potential safety hazards in the popular district. Anticipating a surge in young people and foreign visitors around Shibuya Station, authorities are deploying nearly three times theusual number of patrol officers this weekend, particularly on the evening of October 25th.
The heightened security measures are a direct response to concerns about potentialstampedes and alcohol-related incidents. Patrol officers will be tasked with clearing discarded empty cans and bottles from the streets, while also actively discouraging public drinking. They will be reminding individuals of the local ordinances prohibiting alcohol consumption in public areas.
In a further effort to curb potential problems, the Shibuya Ward government has requested that convenience stores and other businesses in the vicinity of Shibuya Station refrain from selling alcoholic beverages from 6 PM on October 26th until 5 AMthe following day. This measure will also be implemented on Halloween Day, October 31st.
Meanwhile, the Shinjuku Ward government has announced a similar initiative, prohibiting alcohol consumption on the streets surrounding the Kabukicho entertainment district in accordance with local regulations.
We anticipate a large influx of peopleduring the Halloween period, said Takeshi Tsukisikawa, a planning and management official at the Shibuya Ward Civil Engineering Department. We urge everyone to be mindful of their surroundings, avoid excessive drinking, and cooperate with our efforts to ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween for all.
