SHANGHAI, CHINA – Applehas achieved a remarkable feat on the first night of Tmall’s Double 11 shopping festival, surpassing 1 billion yuan (approximately $140 millionUSD) in sales within just 5 minutes of the event’s launch. This staggering figure highlights the continued popularity of Apple products in China, despite the ongoing economic challenges.

The record-breaking sales were announced by Tmall, Alibaba’s e-commerce platform, on the evening of October 21st. The platform reported that other major electronics brands, including Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo, Samsung, andSony, also saw their sales figures surge past 100 million yuan within the first few minutes of the event. Vivo and iQOO mobile phone brands even exceeded their sales for the first hour of last year’s Double 11within just 15 minutes.

This year’s Double 11, known for its massive discounts and promotions, has seen a significant increase in consumer participation. Tmall has introduced a 万券齐发 (Myriad Coupons) campaign, offering a plethora of coupons across various product categories, including 88VIPexclusive discounts and surprise single-item vouchers. Consumers who manage to collect all the available coupons could potentially save over 10,000 yuan.

The platform has also streamlined the checkout process, allowing consumers to use multiple payment methods, including Alipay and WeChat Pay. This simplified experience is likely contributing to the rapidsales figures.

Apple’s strong performance on Double 11 further solidifies its position as a leading brand in China’s tech market. The company’s consistent innovation and premium product offerings continue to resonate with Chinese consumers, despite the growing competition from local brands.

The success of Double 11’sopening night suggests a strong consumer appetite for electronics and a willingness to spend during the festival. As the event progresses, it will be interesting to see if Apple can maintain its momentum and surpass its previous sales records.
