Google’s NotebookLM, the AI-powered note-taking tool, is taking its audio summaries to the nextlevel by allowing users to customize the discussions generated by its AI podcast hosts. This means you can now guide the AI hosts to focus on specific topics and even tailorthe conversation for different audiences.
Launched last month, NotebookLM’s audio summaries feature two AI hosts engaging in a lively discussion about your research.While Google emphasizes that these summaries are not meant to be comprehensive or objective overviews of a topic, they are a reflection of the sources you upload and any instructions you provide.
To customize the chat, simply open a notebookin NotebookLM, select Notebook Guide, and navigate to the In-Depth Conversation option. Clicking Customize allows you to input instructions for the AI hosts to follow. NotebookLM will then generate a conversation based on your specificdirectives.
Beyond removing the experimental tag from NotebookLM, Google has also introduced background listening for audio summaries, allowing you to listen to the AI hosts’ discussion while working in other areas of the app. Last month, Google also added the ability to dive deeper into YouTube videos through transcriptions using NotebookLM.
Google is set to launch NotebookLM Business, a version of the tool available through Google Workspace, offering enhanced features for businesses, universities, and organizations. Data privacy and security have been a development priority for NotebookLM since its inception.
Starting today, you can apply to join the NotebookLM Business pilot program. Thisnew level of customization marks a significant step forward for NotebookLM, allowing users to leverage the power of AI to create personalized and engaging content tailored to their specific needs.
