Taiwan Youth Check In to the Yellow River of Ancient Poetry in Qingtongxia
Wu Zhong, Ningxia, October 17 (CNS) -Seeing the Yellow River for the first time, it feels just like Li Bai described in ‘Jiang Jin Jiu,’ truly ‘descending from heaven,’ exclaimed Xu Youhao, a young Taiwanese, on October 17th, standing at the Qingtongxia Yellow River Grand Canyon. He then sent a selfie with the riveras the backdrop to his friends back home.
On this day, nearly 200 Taiwanese youth, including Xu Youhao, embarked on a boat trip through the Qingtongxia Grand Canyon. The majestic Yellow River, a symbol ofChinese civilization and a recurring theme in ancient poetry, unfolded before their eyes.
The Yellow River is not just a geographical feature, it’s a cultural icon, said Xu, who is studying Chinese literature at a university in Taiwan. Reading about it in poems and seeing it in person are two completely different experiences. It’s like stepping into a poem.
The trip was organized by the Ningxia Youth Federation and the Taiwan Youth Exchange Association. It aims to promote cross-strait cultural exchange and deepen understanding between young people from both sides.
The participants were particularly impressed by the grandeur of the Qingtongxia Grand Canyon, where the Yellow River flows through a narrow gorge, creating breathtaking scenery. They also learned about the historical significance of the Yellow River, its role in Chinese civilization, and its cultural impact on Taiwan.
This trip has opened my eyes to therichness and depth of Chinese culture, said another participant, Chen Xiaoyu. I’m eager to share my experiences with my friends and family back home and encourage them to learn more about the mainland.
The visit to Qingtongxia is part of a larger initiative to promote cross-strait tourism and cultural exchange. The organizers hope that such trips will foster closer ties between young people from both sides and contribute to a more peaceful and harmonious future.
