Gwangju to Host 25th Korea-China-Japan Friendship CityExchange Conference

Gwangju, South Korea – The 25th Korea-China-Japan Friendship City Exchange Conference, also known as the Korea-China-Japan Local Government Exchange Conference in Korea, will be held in Gwangju from October 21st to 25th, the Gwangju Metropolitan Government announced on October 16th.

The conference, co-hosted by the Gwangju Metropolitan Government, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Japan Association for Local Authorities International Relations, and the Korea Association of Provincial Governors, will be held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju.

Over 400 participants, including Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung, Secretary-General of the Korea Association of Provincial Governors Yoo Min-bong, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Yang Wan-ming, and Chairman of the Japan Association for Local Authorities International Relations Yasuda Mitsuru, are expected to attend.

The conference will focus on fostering cooperation and exchange among local governments in the three countries. Key topics include promoting cultural exchange, strengthening economic ties, and addressing shared challenges such as climate change and aging populations.

A plenary session will be held on October 22nd, where Zhou Hyung-hwan, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Low Fertility and Aging Society, will deliver a keynote speech on tackling the challenges of declining birth rates and an aging population.

The conference will also feature a series of workshops, cultural performances, andexhibitions showcasing the diverse cultures and achievements of the participating cities.

This year’s conference marks a significant milestone in the history of Korea-China-Japan Friendship City Exchange. It is expected to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation among the three countries, paving the way for a more prosperous and peaceful future for theregion.
