Seoul, South Korea – SpaceX, the American aerospace manufacturer and spacetransportation services company, is poised to launch its Starlink satellite internet service in South Korea early next year. This follows the recent announcement by the Ministry of Science andICT (MSIT) of a revised technical standard for radio equipment, paving the way for the use of Starlink terminals within the country.
The MSIT’s revised technical standard, published on October 15th, includes modifications to accommodate the use of Starlink terminals. This amendment is a crucial step towards enabling SpaceX to provide its satellite internet service in South Korea.
Following a60-day public consultation period, the MSIT will initiate the approval process for the cross-border supply agreement between SpaceX’s Korean subsidiary, Starlink Korea LLC, and its American headquarters. This process, which includes legal review, is expected to be completed by early 2024, allowing Starlink to officially launch its services in South Korea.
SpaceX established its Korean subsidiary, Starlink Korea LLC, on March 8th, 2023, signaling its commitment to expanding its global reach and providing high-speed internet access toa wider audience. The launch of Starlink in South Korea will provide a significant boost to internet connectivity, particularly in rural areas where traditional internet infrastructure is limited.
