Ukraine’s Auto Market Shows Resilience: Kyiv and Surrounding Regions Lead in NewCar Sales

Despite the ongoing conflict, the Ukrainian automotive market continues to show signs of resilience, with sales of new passenger cars remaining relatively strong in September. According to UkrAvtoProm, a leading automotive industry association, the capital city of Kyivand its surrounding region, along with Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Lviv oblasts (regions), accounted for a significant 62%of new car sales last month.

Kyiv itself saw a slight increase in new car registrations, with 1,987 cars purchased in September, representing a 2% rise compared to the same period last year. TheKyiv oblast also experienced a surge in sales, registering 559 new cars, a notable 9% increase year-on-year.

While the war has undoubtedly impacted the automotive market, the figures from Dnipropetrovskoblast, which saw a 18% decline in new car registrations (356 cars), suggest a degree of stability. Kharkiv oblast, despite being directly affected by the conflict, still recorded a positive 16% growth in new car sales, with 330 cars registered.

Lviv oblastrounded out the top five regions with the highest demand for new cars, although sales saw a slight 2% decrease to 293 cars.

These figures highlight the enduring demand for new cars in Ukraine, even amidst challenging circumstances. While the war has undoubtedly impacted the overall market, the resilience of certain regions, particularly those less directly affected by the conflict, suggests a potential for continued growth in the coming months.
