Windows 11 Dev Builds Now Support Creating 6 GHz Wi-Fi Hotspots
Microsoft continues to push the boundaries of wireless connectivity in Windows 11, with the latest Dev builds now offering support for creating 6 GHz Wi-Fi hotspots. This exciting new feature, however, comes with a caveat:it requires compatible hardware and drivers.
The ability to create 6 GHz Wi-Fi hotspots was discovered by Twitter user @PhantomOfEarth, who found that thefeature became available in Windows 11 Dev build 26120.1912, released on September 30th. This development comes on the heels of Windows 11 24H2, whichbrought native support for Wi-Fi 7 networks.
Currently, the 6 GHz hotspot feature is in an A/B testing phase, meaning it may not be enabled by default for all users. However, those eager to try it out canmanually enable it using ViVeTool, a tool for enabling hidden features in Windows, with the IDs 40466470 or 48433719.
This new feature opens up exciting possibilities for users with compatible hardware, offering faster speeds and lower latency for devices connected tothe hotspot. The 6 GHz band offers significantly more bandwidth than the traditional 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, making it ideal for demanding applications like streaming, gaming, and virtual reality.
However, it’s important to note that not all devices are currently equipped to utilize the 6 GHzband. Users will need to ensure their hardware, including their router and Wi-Fi adapter, supports Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7.
