Generative AI Won’t Steal Your Job (Yet): 69%of Skills Remain Safe, Study Finds
New York, NY – While therise of generative AI has sparked widespread anxieties about job displacement, a new study suggests that humans still hold a significant edge in the workforce. According to research publishedby Indeed Hiring Lab, a whopping 69% of job skills are unlikely to be replaced by AI, at least in the near future.
The study, which analyzed 2,800 job skills from Indeed’s database, used OpenAI’s GPT-4o model to assess the potential for AI to automate tasks. While the researchers found that generative AI could potentially automate certain tasks,they concluded that it is unlikely to completely replace human workers in most roles.
The study found that no job is considered ‘highly likely’ to be replaced by AI, said the study’s lead author. While generative AI canhandle some tasks, it is unlikely to replace a skilled human worker who can bring critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence to the table.
The study also found that jobs requiring significant physical dexterity, such as cooking, are less likely to be automated by AI. Conversely, roles like accounting, marketing, software development, and healthcare administration are more susceptible to AI automation, as AI can assist with data analysis and problem-solving.
However, even in these roles, the study emphasizes that AI is unlikely to completely replace human workers. Instead, it is more likely to augment their work, enabling them to focus on higher-level tasksthat require human judgment and creativity.
This research highlights the importance of continuous learning and skill development, said the study’s author. As AI continues to evolve, workers need to adapt and acquire new skills to remain competitive in the job market.
