Kathmandu, Nepal (September 25, 2024):Nepal’s Communications and Information Technology Minister, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has announced that the Security Printing Center (Security Printing Press) located inPanauti Municipality-5, Kavrepalanchok, will be operational within two years.

During an inspection of the center on Wednesday, Minister Gurungstated that the government is actively preparing to launch the center within the next two years. He emphasized that the Ministry of Finance is coordinating and collaborating to secure the necessary budget for the project.

Gurung also highlighted the dilapidated condition of the center’s buildings, necessitating significant infrastructure upgrades. He outlined the center’s crucial role in managing all government printing needs, including postage stamps, excise stickers, national identity cards, and other official documents.

He further emphasized the needto address Nepal’s current reliance on foreign entities for security printing services, such as passports, banknotes, bank cards, and excise stickers. The establishment of the Security Printing Center is expected to boost national productivity, create employment opportunities, and replace imports of security printing materials.

The IT Park, constructed between 2000 and 2004, was handed over to the government upon completion. Spanning 257 ropanis of land, the park houses two large commercial and administrative buildings, four well-equipped residential buildings, and a total of nine structures. Despite being considered a model and one of the largestIT Parks in South Asia at the time, the lack of operationalization has led to its current dilapidated state.
